Zurab Pololikashvili - Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Kingdom of Spain, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the World Tourism Organization - Zurab Pololikashvili was elected as Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization. Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili will hold new position until 2021.
The delegation was led by Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia – Zurab Alavidze.
It is worth to mention that this is the first case when the candidate of Georgia was elected as the head of leading international organization.
The elections were held in Madrid within the frames of 105th Session of the Executive Council of the Organization. Zurab Pololikashvili's candidacy was supported by the majority of member states.
Election of Georgia’s candidate for the leading managerial position of international organization emphasizes Georgian aspiration to contribute to the implementation of international governance.
Electing Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili to the position of Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization represents the support of international community towards Georgia’s reforms and achievements in tourism sector.
